A Grumpy Kind of Morning: #WorthRevisit

This is shaping up to be one of those days where things just don’t fall into place, where you have to push and shove and jam every puzzle piece and hope it will lock into the right spot–because if not, it’s locked into the wrong spot and God help you when you try to get it back out.

I’m going to need a little extra help today–not because anything big has gone wrong, but those little things are going to be the death of me. For example:

  • The Kid missed the bus. Again. I didn’t want to have to leave to drive him, because…
  • We have a contractor coming to do some repair work around here. He spoke to Hubs yesterday while I was not home. Hubs told me the contractor would be here today, but hadn’t asked the guy what time he’d be here. I don’t do uncertainty well in circumstances like this.
  • Middle Sister woke up and told me that the contractor had said he would not be here today but would start on Thursday.
  • I found this out just 10 minutes too late to be able to get to daily Mass (which, I’m sure we can all agree, I could have used).
  • I have to untangle some stupid prescription red tap regarding pen needles for The Kid’s insulin. I placed an order yesterday with our long-term prescription plan, who apparently contacted the endocrinologist for confirmation, who sent the renewed script to CVS, who cannot fill it because we have to use the long-term prescription source for stuff like this. I’m already 2 phone calls into the process. What’s the over/under on how many more I’ll need to make before it’s worked out?

All stupid little things, so why am I sitting here ready to break out in tears over them?

For this Worth Revisiting Wednesday, I’m looking back at another day 3 years ago

And the walls came tumbling down.

Not the walls of my home (thank God!) but the emotional walls that I use to hold everything in and keep it all together.  Sometimes there is just way too much for those walls to hold.  And usually it’s some stupid little thing that causes them to cave in.

Who’s the patron saint of people who sweat the small stuff? Maybe it’s Martha:

Martha, you are anxious about many things. –Luke 10:41

That’s me, in a nutshell.

  1. Ah yes, you are not the only one. My Hubby knew last week he had to go on a day trip to the other office (1/5 hours away). I scheduled to have his car go in to have the A\C fixed. I was counting on him to take my teen to school and I would work from home. Then he absolutely balked when I suggested I take him to work. But we had also re-scheduled delivery folks to come back out and haul away my old range. They called and scheduled for between 4:15-6:15. Right in the middle of teen’s Bass guitar appointment and I have several afternoon conference calls. Just irritation.

Fortunately, the mechanic’s shop is about a walk-able mile away. Many places are not walk-able due to busy roads and a lack of sidewalks in my slice of suburbia. So exercise is crossed off my list. But is sure is annoying.

  2. I always try to remind myself that these are First World problems (as in, at least I have food to eat and a bed to sleep in with a roof over my head). Sometimes we have to go back to the really basic stuff we don’t have to deal with to realize what we do have to deal with is just a little less icing on the cake. Hope your day gets better!

I wrenched my knee last week and am waiting until tomorrow to see the orthopedist. In the meantime I shuffle around and take the steps like an old lady (which makes laundry super fun!). It makes everything I do take twice as long, so I get where you’re coming from.

    • NOOOOOOOOOOOOO! You don’t need anything slowing you down now! I know there’s a wedding coming up! Praying for you at your appointment today!

  3. Barb, I hear you about days like this (as you know)! I imagined you fuddling around with the phone calls about the prescription. That’s my life, too. I’m sure I’ll be able to commiserate with kids missing the bus when they are older, but for now I’m glad you mentioned St. Martha. I’m totally a Martha, as well. Maybe it’s time we prayed to St. Mary…speaking of Marys, today is Our Lady of Fatima! So there is hope after all. 🙂

  4. Thanks, everyone. Sometimes it helps just to write about it and unload. I decided to give myself a change of scenery for a while, and that turned out to be a good thing.
